The folk art centers of Vitebsk and Smolensk signed a cooperation agreement, BelTA learned from the Vitebsk regional methodical center of folk art.
The document was signed by the centers in Vitebsk on 2 April and will be valid for five years. It envisages exchange exhibitions, joint research conferences, and various art projects. The center will participate in important cultural events of the two regions and join efforts to restore traditional costumes. The document provides for other areas of cooperation.
The event was timed to the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia. An exhibition featuring Smolensk arts and crafts opened in the Vitebsk regional methodical center of folk art. It displays 70 works dedicated to Smolensk. The items include wood carving and willow weaving works, objects from birch bark, authentic towels, ceramics from the holdings of Smolensk State Museum Reserve, whistles and artifacts from excavation sites. “The works have outstanding style features, which makes the exhibition interesting for both art amateurs and folk art craftsmen,”the center noted.
The exhibition will run till 22 April.
