Average life expectancy of Belarusians projected at 74.5 years in 2017

The average life expectancy of Belarusians is forecast to make up 74.5 years in 2017, BelTA learned from Yelena Bogdan, the head of the central office for medical aid organization at the Belarusian Healthcare Ministry.

The government program People's Health and Demographic Security is well underway. In 2016 all the tasks set forth in the program were accomplished. The program was described successful during the meeting of Belarus' Council of Ministers. "The target was to increase the average life expectancy. In 2016 it went up to 74.1 years. In 2017 it should edge up to 74.5 years," Yelena Bogdan said.

Another important goal is to transfer hospital outpatient services to general practice. Today 25% of both rural and urban specialists work as general practitioners.
