Belarus calls on UNESCO to fight discrimination

Deputy Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to UNESCO Kirill Grushevsky delivered a speech at the plenary meeting of the 215th session of the UNESCO Executive Board. The session is taking place at UNESCO headquarters on 5-19 October, BelTA learned from the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.

The representative of Belarus emphasized the inadmissibility of the politicization of UNESCO's activities. He called on the leadership of the organization to challenge intolerance, discrimination, and hate speech.

In addition, Kirill Grushevsky underlined that UNESCO should address problems exclusively within the framework of its mandate.

Belarus once again raised the issue of preserving the UNESCO World Heritage site Belovezhskaya Pushcha. The national park was affected by the fence built by Poland on the border with our country. The representative of the Belarusian delegation also noted that Belarus would welcome UNESCO's initiatives aimed at maintaining peace and security, promoting sustainable development in the areas of its mandate and cooperation of member states without pressure and blackmail.
