The EAEU explained whether there is a difference between condensed milk and evaporated milk

Whether all 'sgushchenka' is condensed milk and what the difference between them is, was explained at a press conference in Moscow by representatives of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), a BELTA correspondent reports.
As noted by Anna Zuevskaya, Head of the Department of Technical Regulation and Standardization in the Field of Food, Chemical, and Agricultural Products of the EEC, the EAEU technical regulations list four types of condensed milk: skimmed condensed milk with sugar, whole condensed milk with sugar, etc. "There is no such product as 'sgushchenka' listed there," she pointed out.
"And when we talk about the use of shortened names, which can vary – it could be 'sgushchenka', 'sgustena' – this is a coined term. In accordance with the technical regulation, it can also be used, but only within the name itself. That is, the full name of the condensed milk must be present in its designation. The words can be rearranged, for example, whole milk condensed with sugar, not whole with sugar milk. And then, for example, 'sgushchenka' can be indicated. And then we all understand that the full name refers to the object of the technical regulation, and it is precisely a specific condensed milk. And 'sgushchenka' is a coined term that the manufacturer has assigned to its product," explained Anna Zuevskaya.
Valentin Tataritsky, Member of the Board (Minister) for Technical Regulation of the EEC, added that in order to understand whether it is indeed real condensed milk, consumers need to pay attention to the composition. "I think we have all learned to read not only the names but also the ingredients. We understand what should be written there," he noted.
At the same time, the EEC Minister recalled that at one time there was a similar situation in the consumer market with cheeses, which were often passed off as "cheese products." Thanks to the amendments made to the technical regulations, consumers are no longer misled.
