When the long-awaited weekends arrive for most people, MES employees do not slow down their work. Moreover, it is on these days, when people are most often at home, that they intensify their activities, carrying out large-scale preventive work in the residential sector. The goal of such meetings with the public is to make homes safer and citizens more aware of potential threats.

What do rescuers do when they visit apartments and houses on weekends? Their visits are not just a formality, but a comprehensive approach to ensuring fire safety. The main areas of their work when inspecting households include: checking the operability of fire alarms. This small but incredibly important device can save lives by timely warning of smoke. MES employees not only check the presence and operability of alarms, but also explain to residents how to properly install, maintain, and replace batteries. They remind that even the most modern alarm is useless if it is not working.

The rules for operating stove heating are being addressed. In private homes, and even in some apartments, stove heating remains relevant. And, unfortunately, it is often the cause of fires due to improper operation. Rescuers draw attention to the condition of stoves and chimneys, the presence of cracks, and the correct installation of hearth mats. They remind about the need for regular chimney cleaning, the inadmissibility of overheating the stove, and the use of flammable liquids for ignition.

The use of electrical appliances is also not overlooked: do not overload sockets, do not leave switched-on appliances unattended, and do not use damaged wires.

One of the most common causes of fatal fires, unfortunately, is careless handling of fire while smoking.

"Prevention, of course, is the best cure. The same applies to safety rules. It is better to prevent trouble in advance, and for this, it is important to follow basic rules," emphasizes Vladislav Volkov, inspector of the supervision and prevention sector.

"Believe me, all the rules are created for our own good," adds Daria Zaykovskaya, inspector of the public relations and community engagement sector.

"We are also presenting you with our booklet 'Your Safe Home,' which outlines all the key safety aspects," the inspector continues.

Visits by EMERCOM employees are not a cause for concern, but an opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and ensure the safety of your home. This is a dialogue in which each of us plays an important role. After all, safety is not only the job of rescuers, but also our shared responsibility. Remember that observing simple fire safety rules is the responsibility of each of us.
