Intentional infliction of minor bodily harm, i.e., harm that caused a short-term health disorder, is a crime of low public danger (Article 153 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus). Such criminal cases are initiated upon the application of the victim of the crime, any of their adult close relatives or family members, or their legal representative.
At the same time, the prosecutor is authorized to initiate such a criminal case in the absence of an application from the victim if the crime affects the vital interests of the state and society or is committed against a person who is in a subordinate or other dependent position to the accused, or for other reasons is unable to independently protect their rights and legitimate interests. Proceedings in such a case shall not be terminated due to reconciliation between the victim and the accused during the preliminary investigation.
In order to prevent more serious crimes against individuals, the district prosecutor initiated a criminal case under Article 153 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus in October 2023.
Specifically, a resident of our district, P., while intoxicated, during an argument that arose from suddenly developed personal animosity, inflicted minor bodily harm on his cohabitant, characterized by a short-term health disorder.
By court verdict, P. was convicted under Article 153 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus to correctional labor, and compulsory treatment for chronic alcoholism was also applied to him.
