Lukashenko promises support to farmers

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko assured that the country provides support for those who wish to engage in farming. He made a corresponding statement during a working trip to the Mogilev region, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.

The Head of State recalled that at one time, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, it was necessary to restore once successful agricultural organizations that found themselves in a not-so-good situation in the 90s. And then, in a number of countries, they went the way of selling land. But Belarus made a different choice for itself, and now collective farms, state farms, and so on are working effectively. In such an established, well-tuned system, it is possible to transfer, for example, individual plots of land to farmers for agricultural purposes.

"Then I had to show: this is the path we will take – large-scale farms. But if someone wants to become a farmer – please, here is the land for you. Today, there are no problems at all. Take any farm. Naturally, no one will give you 'Rassvet', you understand that there will be a fight for this 'Rassvet' or for some lands. These are peasants, you can't break things here… You need to be careful," emphasized Alexander Lukashenko.

Today, there are no problems creating farms, he added. But the difficulty is that many who currently apply for agricultural land would like to have "large latifundia," that is, to engage in large-scale production, but on a private level. "Please. We have them. But I will say right away that well-functioning farms (most of them), of course, no one will give away. Why break them? They work – let them work. And where a private individual needs to lend a hand – please, we will support," stated the Head of State.

"We talk with those who work," he added.
