The majority of fires still occur in the housing stock of citizens. Among the deceased, as before, are people leading an antisocial lifestyle, unemployed, and elderly citizens who, due to their physiological characteristics, are no longer able to ensure an adequate level of safety for themselves.
Year after year, the causes of fire incidents remain the same, with careless handling of fire by citizens themselves taking the leading position. Parallel to the causes of fires are the conditions that contribute to their occurrence. First and foremost is alcohol abuse, as indicated by statistics, since most of the deceased citizens were intoxicated. Carelessness and disregard for the simplest safety rules, as well as ignoring the recommendations of preventive entities, also contribute to the worsening situation.
As part of the month-long campaign, rescuers, along with representatives of other preventive entities, including local authorities, police, healthcare, energy supervision, gas services, education, social protection, etc., are visiting the households of citizens belonging to socially vulnerable categories. Special attention is paid to the housing of unemployed citizens of working age, individuals prone to alcohol abuse, elderly citizens living with such individuals, and families with children and single pensioners are not overlooked.
Preventive measures are being carried out in all regions of the Vitebsk region, and commissions are working intensively on weekends as well, as the fire-hazardous season is fast approaching. Despite the fact that the ground is still covered with snow, owners of private yards are actively starting
to tidy up the land, they burn last year's garbage, set fire to dry grass on adjacent unused plots. Often, such methods of clearing territories lead to sad, and sometimes tragic consequences. Therefore, rescuers will remind residents of the dangers of burning dry vegetation, and also explain how to safely tidy up their plot.
The focus of all preventive measures is aimed at instilling a culture of life safety in citizens.
