Announcement of the Republican campaign "Don't burn your life"

November 1, 2024

The "Don't Burn Your Life!" campaign by the Ministry of Emergency Situations will start in the republic on November 4.

A habit is an action that a person performs automatically. Smoking is among the most common habits and is one of the most dangerous. This is confirmed by fire emergencies that arise due to careless handling of fire while smoking. A smoker does not always think about the consequences, the cost of which can be immeasurably greater than the cost of a single cigarette.

Smoking in bed is the main cause of fires in the Republic of Belarus. The vast majority of deaths in fires, more than 70%, occur due to careless handling of fire while smoking. Often, the scenarios of such fires are almost always similar and start according to a very simple scheme: drink, smoke, fall asleep...

With the aim of preventing fires and deaths from them due to careless handling of fire while smoking, the republican information and propaganda campaign "Don't Burn Your Life!" will be held from November 4 to November 27.

As part of the campaign, events will be held at industrial enterprises, in recycling collection points, dormitories, locations of mobile shops, universities, colleges, lyceums, as well as in crowded places, where the consequences of this harmful habit will be reminded once again.

For participants of the "Don't Burn Your Life" campaign, quizzes, miniature contests, and open dialogues will be prepared, where everyone can consolidate their knowledge in the field of life safety.

Rescuers urge for prudence and ask to be careful in their actions – when smoking at home, put cigarette butts in a non-combustible ashtray, a tin or glass container filled with water, and under no circumstances smoke in bed, especially when intoxicated, make sure that ash does not fall on flammable items or the floor, and store matches, lighters, and cigarettes in places inaccessible to children.

We remind you that smoking in bed is not only dangerous but also prohibited! Fire safety rules prohibit smoking in bed or any other sleeping place, as well as throwing unextinguished cigarettes and matches out of windows, balconies (loggias) of apartment buildings.

of buildings, into garbage chutes, garbage containers, bins, urns on the adjacent territory. Change your habits (or better yet – quit smoking), take care of your own safety and the well-being of your family and neighbors.
