Every year, thin ice causes fatalities

Where it's thin, it breaks – a well-known truth. And when it comes to thin ice, unfortunately, lives are lost. Thin ice annually becomes the cause of various incidents.

The air temperature in the republic has begun to drop below zero. Thin ice has formed on small bodies of water.

With the first frosts, the process of ice formation begins on water bodies. Water bodies become covered with ice, which is initially still fragile and easily breaks under the weight of a person or equipment. Porous ice, which is snow frozen during a blizzard, is very dangerous.

Incidents can be avoided by observing safety rules and personal safety measures.

 It is only safe to go on the ice when its thickness exceeds 7 centimeters.

Ice with a thickness of 7-10 cm is considered relatively safe. The thickness can be determined visually by color. If the ice is green or bluish-green, it will support a person; if it is dirty, brownish-gray, it is likely that it will not. Ice is considered unstable near the mouths of rivers and tributaries, near springs and drainage waters, as well as trees, bushes, and reeds.

Stepping on such unfrozen ice is a direct risk to life.
