Dangerous spring «cleaning»: specialists warn about the consequences of grass burning

Even in the absence of wind, a single spark can cause a large-scale fire, destroying homes and property. Tragedies that begin with the desire to "make things clean" happen every year.
"In addition, burning destroys young vegetation, beneficial insects, bird nests, depletes the soil, and pollutes the air, negatively affecting people's health," notes Alexander Kazak, head of the Glubokoye District Inspectorate of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection.
Ruslan Ermakovich, Deputy Head of the Glubokoye District Department for Emergency Situations, reminded that fines are imposed for illegal burning under Article 16.40 of the Code of Administrative Offenses. However, as he emphasized, financial losses are only part of the problem. It is much more frightening when fire destroys property accumulated over years or, most tragically, leads to loss of life. In cases of major damage, offenders face criminal liability.
