A memory carried across the country: Hlybokaye becomes part of an important route

The Glubokoye district has become an important point on the route of the republican cycling race dedicated to the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the memory of the Council of Belarusian Saints.

The participants' journey began in ancient Polotsk, near the walls of the Spaso-Yefrosinievsky Convent. At the border of the Glubokoye district, the team was met by Tatyana Zevalich, Head of the Sports Sector of the Glubokoye District Executive Committee.

– Every kilometer of this journey is a tribute to the feat of our ancestors during the Great Patriotic War and a tribute to all Belarusian Saints, – noted Tatyana Tadeushevna.

A solemn reception was held at the Glubokoye District Physical Culture and Recreation Center. Following a good tradition, the participants of the cycling race were presented with a magnificent каравай (round loaf of bread) from the hospitable Glubokoye land – a symbol of hospitality and well-being.

Tatyana Tarasevich, Deputy Chairperson of the Glubokoye District Executive Committee, addressed the guests with a welcoming speech:

– We are sincerely glad to see you in Glubokoye! The cycling race is not just a sporting competition; it is a tribute to history, heroes, and spiritual traditions. Thank you for carrying this bright memory across the country. We wish you a smooth journey, strength, and vivid impressions on the Glubokoye land!

After a short rest, the participants of the cycling race visited the "Borok" memorial complex, where a requiem rally was held in memory of the victims of genocide during the Great Patriotic War.

The event was attended by Vera Telitsa, Chairperson of the Glubokoye District Council of Deputies, and Tatyana Tarasevich, Deputy Chairperson of the Glubokoye District Executive Committee.

Alexander Khaynovsky, Senior Researcher at the Glubokoye Historical and Ethnographic Museum, reminded the rally participants of the tragic events of this place: "More than 27,000 prisoners of the Berezvech labor camp are buried in the Borok tract, of which 585 names are immortalized on the territory of this memorial. Our country sacredly honors places that symbolize the pain, loss, and tragic fates of millions of people."

The attendees observed a minute of silence in memory of the fallen. At the conclusion of the rally, fresh flowers – scarlet carnations, like drops of blood shed here and a symbol of eternal, unfading memory – were laid at the foot of the monument.

On the second day of their stay in the Glubokoe region, the participants of the cycling race, together with cycling enthusiasts from Glubokoe, visited the Berezvech Holy Archangel Michael Convent. In the church in honor of the Archangel Michael, the dean of the Glubokoe church district, Archpriest Mikhail Izoytko, held a prayer service and blessed the athletes for a good journey.

Then, the young cyclists from Polotsk, along with the Glubokoe cyclists, proceeded to the SU-17 aircraft installed at the entrance to the city.

Seeing off the guests, the head of the sports sector, Tatyana Zevalich, wished them a safe journey and presented commemorative souvenirs to Leonid Nikolaevich Sinyavsky, who was leading the group of young Polotsk cyclists.

Their route then continued towards the Dokshitsy district, and then to Logoisk, to the "Khatyn" memorial complex, where on Saturday, June 13, about 5,000 participants of the republican cycling race from all corners of our country will gather.

– We accepted the offer to participate in the republican cycling race dedicated to the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the memory of the Council of Belarusian Saints with great pleasure. We already have experience participating in last year's cycling race, – said Mikhail Letokhitsky, deputy director of Polotsk Children and Youth Sports School No. 2. – Students of the cycling sports department, led by the director of the institution, sports veteran, Master of Sports of the USSR in cycling Leonid Sinyavsky, set off on a journey through the historical and memorable places of our beloved Belarus. All of them already have sufficient experience in competing at the republican level. And I hope they will all successfully finish at the designated location and take an active part in the commemorative events at the "Khatyn" memorial complex.
