On 12.07.2021 at 09:35, a report was received about a drowned man in the waters of Lake Vysokoye near the village of Bogino, Braslav district. On 11.07.2021, around eight in the evening, a 36-year-old man was resting outdoors with friends. He did not return home. In the morning, his relatives raised the alarm. At 10:20 on 12.07.2021, the drowned man was recovered from the water by OSVOD workers.
On 13.07.2021 at 14:52, a report was received about a drowned child in the "Lesnye Kariery" reservoir in the urban-type settlement of Liozno. Upon arrival at the scene, it was learned that the drowned girl, born in 2007, was with her friend on the lake, swimming. The girl swam about five meters from the shore and after some time went under the water. The drowned girl was found and recovered from the water by MES workers at a distance of 15 meters from the shore at a depth of two meters.
On 15.07.2021 at 17:29, a report was received about a drowned man in a dug pond in the village of Babichi, Gluboksky district. The body of a pensioner was recovered from the water by OSVOD workers. All circumstances of the incident are being established.
On 16.07.2021 at 17:26, a report was received that a person drowned in a quarry in the urban-type settlement of Ruba. MES workers recovered the man from the water. The deceased, a twenty-five-year-old young man, was returning from work with his two colleagues. They decided to swim in the quarry. The young man dived into the water and never reappeared on the surface. The other two safely reached the shore.
On 17.07.2021 at 05:34, a report was received that a person drowned in the Western Dvina River near Mazurino Park. Arriving MES workers found the man, born in 1990, at a depth of 3 meters, 15 meters from the shore. As it became known, the deceased was resting on the bank of the Western Dvina River with an acquaintance, they were consuming alcoholic beverages, after which the young man decided to swim, dived into the water and never reappeared on the surface.
On 18.07.2021 at 18:24, a report was received that a person drowned in a dug pond in the village of Poruchniki.
Rescuers of the Ministry of Emergency Situations surveyed the water area and the shoreline. A deceased pensioner, born in 1950, was found at a depth of 2 meters, 4 meters from the shore. The circumstances of death are being established.
Recommendations from rescuers:
- Monitor the whereabouts of children and remind them of water safety rules;
- It is forbidden to swim in water bodies while intoxicated. Alcohol further dilates blood vessels, leading to a sharp spasm after immersion in cold water. In open water, this can be fatal;
- Swim only at equipped beaches within the designated area marked by buoys or floats;
- It is forbidden to swim beyond the boundary markers and to move away from the shore at significant distances while swimming, as well as to swim across water bodies without urgent need (rescuing people);
- It is forbidden to jump or dive into unfamiliar places from bridges, piers, wharves, etc.;
- It is forbidden to use inflatable mattresses, rings, tubes, and other inflatable items for swimming, as they are not watercraft. Any improvised inflatable items can slip out of hands, deflate for any reason, and the person will end up in the water.
