Prevention of crimes against elderly and aged citizens

Ensuring the safety of elderly citizens is one of the main tasks facing government bodies. Therefore, special attention is paid to the safety of elderly people.

Recently, cases of theft and fraud against elderly citizens have become more frequent in the republic. As a rule, criminals, under the pretext of selling (buying) various goods, items, and food products, posing as employees of the social protection service, medical workers, and other individuals, gain access to the homes of lonely pensioners, where, taking advantage of their gullibility, they steal money, gold items, and other valuables.

These crimes are difficult to solve, as due to their advanced age, many victims cannot provide detailed descriptions of the criminals' appearance, create their subjective portrait, or identify them from existing records.

To prevent crimes committed against citizens of retirement age, it is recommended:

 not to store cash in linen closets in rooms of apartments (houses), to exclude the possibility of outsiders discovering money during a cursory inspection of the apartment; if possible, store large sums of money in banks;

 not to open the door to an apartment (house) to strangers, including those who claim to be employees of various social (utility) services. In any case, do not be ashamed to ask visitors to present their documents. Moreover, even after presenting documents, do not rush to open the door to strangers. It would be advisable to call neighbors, call the relevant institutions and inquire whether they sent their employee and what their last name is, or report the "visitors" to the phone number "102";

 on days of receiving pensions, visit post offices, savings banks, and ATMs with relatives or people you trust;

 after receiving your pension, count the money discreetly from others;

 when leaving, pay attention to those around you who are following, do not engage in conversation with them;

 do not enter into any transactions with strangers.

Upon receipt of assistance, elderly citizens may contact a law enforcement officer or the territorial social service center.
