Preventive campaign «Change your style to winter!», and Unified Road Safety Day «Change your style to winter!»

The Traffic Police Department of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Hlybokaye District Executive Committee is holding the republican preventive campaign “Change your style to winter!” and the Unified Road Safety Day “Change your style to winter!” from November 27 to December 05, 2024. The purpose of these events is to prepare vehicles for operation in winter conditions.

With the onset of cold weather, car owners face a number of problems related to weather conditions. These include low temperatures, ice, and snowdrifts, which pose no less danger than an icy road. Experienced drivers know that correctly assessing road conditions, skillfully applying driving skills, timely monitoring the technical condition of the vehicle, and strictly adhering to the Traffic Regulations allow one to feel confident on winter roads.

According to the Traffic Regulations, from December 1 to March 1, vehicles must be equipped with winter tires when participating in road traffic. This requirement applies to vehicles with a technically permissible maximum mass of up to 3.5 tons inclusive, passenger cars and light trucks with a technically permissible maximum mass exceeding 3.5 tons, as well as buses with a technically permissible maximum mass of up to 5 tons.

For participation in road traffic of vehicles not equipped with winter tires, administrative liability is provided in the form of a fine of up to 1 base unit. A repeated violation of this kind within a year entails liability from 2 to 5 base units.

Winter tires are made from a special material that can maintain elasticity in frost and therefore provides better grip on snowy and icy roads – according to test results, it is 50-60% higher than that of all-season tires. When the air temperature drops below 5 degrees Celsius, summer tires lose their properties, become stiff, which affects the braking distance and the vehicle's behavior on the road.
