Glubokoe district is one of the most industrially developed districts of the Vitebsk region. It was formed on January 15, 1940, and is located in the northwestern part of Belarus, in the southwestern part of the Vitebsk region. The center of the district is the city of Glubokoe, located 176 kilometers from the capital of the Republic of Belarus, Minsk, and 187 kilometers from the regional center, Vitebsk.
Administratively, the district is divided into 13 village councils, the city of Glubokoe, and the urban-type settlement of Podsvilye.
The total area of the district is about 176 thousand hectares. 54% of the district's area is occupied by agricultural land, with arable land accounting for about 28.9%. Lands of the state forest fund constitute 26%, swamps – 6%. 27 rivers and streams flow through the territory of the district, and there are 106 lakes, including the deepest lake in Belarus – Dolgoe, with a depth of 57 meters.
According to specialists from "Belkosmosaerogeodesy," the geographical center of Europe is located in the Glubokoe district, near Lake Sho.
The ichthyofauna of the lakes includes 30 species of fish. The flora numbers over 800 species of plants. The most common animal species include wild boar, elk, fox, marten, hare, beaver, and others.
