Since the beginning of 2026, there has been an increase in fires and fatalities in the Vitebsk region. As of March 2, 216 fires have been recorded, resulting in 33 deaths.

The main causes of fires remain:
– violation of the rules for operation (installation) of stove heating – 76 fires or 35.2%;
– violation of the rules for operation of electrical networks and electrical equipment – 63 fires (29.2%);
– 48 fires (22.2%) are due to careless handling of fire, including during smoking.
The campaign will be held with the aim of increasing the level of public safety, reducing the risks of death from external causes, including fires due to non-compliance with life safety principles, educating citizens in this area and informing the public about the capabilities of organizations providing services in the field of fire safety, as well as preventing offenses committed by citizens in a state of alcoholic intoxication.
In addition to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, labor, employment and social protection bodies, internal affairs bodies, education, healthcare, housing and communal services, gas and energy supply organizations, as well as representatives of the voluntary fire society will take part in the preventive measures.
The focus of the campaign will be on inspecting the fire safety of households of lonely and single elderly citizens, disabled people, families with children in a socially dangerous situation, conducting instructional and explanatory work with them on compliance with fire safety rules, as well as informing the public about the possibilities of state organizations to provide services to ensure their safety.
