On September 18, 2021, two Minsk residents drowned while fishing in the Verkhnedvinsk district. It turned out that two residents of the capital were fishing from a boat on Lake Lisno. When they did not return to their 62-year-old acquaintance's dacha in the evening and stopped communicating, he began to search for them. In the morning of September 19, local residents found the body of the 61-year-old Minsk resident in the water. The second fisherman, a 51-year-old man, was recovered from the water by OSVOD employees a few days later.
On June 24, 2021, a report was received on the "112" number from an OSVOD employee about rescue operations being carried out on the water area of the Drozdy reservoir. According to eyewitnesses, a man was swimming for fishing gear in an area not equipped for swimming and misjudged his strength. One of the rescuers was patrolling the designated sector on a jet ski to ensure no one was swimming there. He unexpectedly noticed the man about 20 meters from the shore when he began to go under water. The rescuer jumped to him, helped him grab onto the jet ski, and transported him to the shore. He was examined at the OSVOD station. The man was intoxicated, but fortunately, he was not injured.
Safe Fishing Rules:
- Before going fishing, be sure to inform your relatives and friends about your fishing location, and also specify your return time;
- Do not consume alcohol, as it slows down reaction time, reduces attention, and dulls the sense of real danger;
- Take a first-aid kit, flashlight, map of the area, and means of notifying your location;
- Before starting to fish, inspect the fishing spot – be especially careful on steep and eroded riverbanks;
- To avoid accidents, it is better to fish without going far from the shore;
- When fishing from a boat
Fishermen should not forget to have life-saving and signaling equipment on board.
