Save a child's life

Under this slogan, from January 19 to 25, a preventive event will be held in the Vitebsk region aimed at preventing road traffic accidents involving child pedestrians and child passengers.

It is worth noting that the problem of child road traffic injuries is one of the most pressing for society in 2023. In the Vitebsk region, there has been an increase in road traffic accidents involving child passengers (2022 – 11, 2023 – 14). Furthermore, in 2 accidents where children died, the minors were passengers.

The severity of the consequences of road traffic accidents involving child passengers is influenced by the fact that a number of adults, when transporting children, neglect the use of passive safety devices (car seats, boosters, special cushions), or transport young children in child restraint systems without fastening them with seat belts.

The State Automobile Inspectorate reminds that for violating the rules of transporting children, in accordance with Part 6 of Article 18.13 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Belarus, the driver shall be subject to an administrative penalty in the form of a fine of up to 4 base amounts.

The main mistakes of young pedestrians that have become causes of road traffic accidents include: crossing the roadway outside of a pedestrian crossing, unexpectedly emerging from behind a vehicle or other obstacles that limit the driver's visibility, as well as being on the roadway without adult supervision.

Within the framework of this preventive event, road patrols are monitoring compliance with the rules for transporting minor passengers and identifying violations of rules for drivers passing pedestrian crossings. In addition, traffic police officers will conduct large-scale information and explanatory work among both children and adults about the main risks and threats to children's safety on the road, in transport, and in courtyards.

Dear adults! Constantly remind children about proper behavior on the road and in transport! Do not leave young children unattended! Be a positive role model for them on the road!

It is mandatory to transport children only when they are secured by seat belts, and for younger children, use special restraint systems.
