Large Accident with Casualties Response Training: Joint Actions of Ambulance and Ministry of Emergency Situations of Vitebsk Region.
The purpose of the event was to practice coordinated actions to eliminate the consequences of a road traffic accident with a large number of victims of varying severity.
According to the tactical plan, a head-on collision occurred on the highway between a passenger bus traveling on the Glubokoye – Polotsk route and a shuttle taxi heading from Polotsk to Dokshitsy. As a result of the collision, both drivers were trapped in the mangled cabins of the vehicles, unconscious and in serious condition.
There were 14 victims in the bus: 5 people sustained moderate injuries, and 9 had minor injuries. In the shuttle taxi, there were 5 victims: two in serious condition and three with minor injuries.
Additional complexity was created by victims outside the vehicles. A child in serious condition and the body of a woman were found near the bus.
These exercises allowed for the testing and improvement of the skills of medical workers and rescuers in conditions as close as possible to real ones. Special attention was paid to: the speed of arrival of emergency services and the organization of initial measures, clear interaction between ambulance crews and Ministry of Emergency Situations units, rapid assessment of the condition of the victims and their triage by severity for further evacuation.
Such joint exercises are an integral part of the training of specialists ensuring the safety and health of citizens, and contribute to increasing the effectiveness of their work in critical situations.
