Due to the intensifying frost, the Ministry of Emergency Situations urges district residents to exercise increased caution and adhere to safety regulations.

According to the weather forecast, temperatures are expected to drop in the coming days, with nighttime temperatures reaching as low as -20°C in some clear areas. Based on the experience of rescue workers, there is an increased risk of emergencies during this period. Therefore, the Ministry of Emergency Situations urges district residents to exercise increased caution and adhere to safety regulations.

During periods of severe frost, many citizens intensify the use of stoves, which can lead to cracks in the brickwork. Rescuers once again remind everyone to observe fire safety rules when operating stove heating and electrical equipment. Promptly address any structural defects and malfunctions, and avoid overheating the stoves. To prevent overheating, it is recommended to heat the stove two to three times a day for no more than one and a half hours each time. Stove heating should cease at least 2 hours before bedtime.

With the onset of severe frosts, water supply and sewage pipes, as well as central heating appliances, often freeze in homes. Neglecting fire safety measures, many homeowners thaw them with open flames or blowtorches, which often leads to fires. It should be known that metal pipes, heated in one room, ignite combustible materials in an adjacent room through heat transfer due to contact. It is recommended to use hot water or heated sand to thaw such pipes.

During the winter period, special attention should be paid to the condition of heating boilers and water circulation within them. It is unacceptable to allow heating system pipes to freeze, as in this case, the pressure in the system can rise to such an extent that an explosion occurs. An explosion can also occur if there is no water in the system or if air pockets form in certain sections. It is recommended to regularly inspect chimneys to prevent icing and blockage. In case of freezing of the heating system, it is necessary to identify the freezing point, thaw it, and only after that gradually ignite the boiler, constantly monitoring the pressure within it.

Hypothermia and frostbite pose a serious danger to humans during frosts. Children and the elderly are primarily susceptible to them. Therefore, it is advisable to limit the time spent outdoors, especially when the wind intensifies, wear warm and loose clothing and footwear, and avoid contact of bare skin with metal in the cold.

Motorists are advised to refrain from using personal vehicles whenever possible, especially for long-distance travel. This primarily applies to diesel-powered vehicles. Experience shows that many of them freeze up while driving or stop on the roadway, obstructing normal traffic flow. If you find yourself in such a situation far from a populated area or in unfamiliar territory, it is best to stay in your car and call for assistance by phone or wait for another vehicle to pass by.

Adhering to these recommendations will help reduce the risk of emergencies and preserve your life and health, as well as that of your loved ones.
