"House without fire" - under this name, from January 26 to 31, a special preventive event of the Ministry of Emergency Situations will be held in the Glubokoye district.

The purpose of the event is to reduce the risks of fires in residential buildings and deaths from them. Ministry of Emergency Situations employees will inspect the fire safety of both residential buildings and outbuildings: bathhouses, garages, sheds, and will talk about the consequences of non-compliance with fire safety rules. Specialists will also remind about the inadmissibility of leaving young children unattended, the dangers of smoking, and the need to install autonomous fire alarms in living rooms.

The focus of the work will be on households and apartments of citizens most at risk of fires.

For reference: As of January 20, 2026, there have been 84 fires in the Vitebsk region, resulting in 12 deaths. In 70% of cases, the contributing factors to deaths were smoking and alcohol intoxication.

The main causes of fires remain: careless handling of fire, violation of rules for the operation of stove heating, heat-generating devices, violation of rules for the operation of power grids and electrical equipment.

The dangers of smoking and alcohol:

Never smoke in bed: It is deadly dangerous, especially if you have consumed alcohol. Intoxication dulls the sense of danger, and the consequences can be irreversible.

A safe place to smoke: If you smoke, do so in designated and safe areas, away from living spaces and flammable materials.

Thorough extinguishing: Always make sure that cigarettes or matches are completely extinguished.

Life saving: Installing an autonomous fire alarm is the most effective way to protect yourself and your family. This small device, costing only a few rubles, can timely alert about smoke with a loud sound, giving precious minutes for evacuation.
