Due to deteriorating weather conditions, the State Automobile Inspectorate recommends that drivers take care of replacing summer tires with winter tires in advance.

Winter tires provide better grip on the road surface in low ambient temperatures, as well as ensure good vehicle handling and shorten its braking distance.

Freezing temperatures are expected in Belarus at night, with fog in the mornings. In such conditions, the traffic police warned, summer tires become stiff and cease to provide adequate grip on the road. Sudden changes in speed and direction of movement increase the risk of skidding. Therefore, car owners are advised to consider switching to winter tires now.

Traffic rules require switching to winter tires by December 1st. At the same time, leading tire manufacturers recommend equipping a car with a winter set as soon as the average daily air temperature drops to 7 degrees Celsius. It is best to check the thermometer in the morning and evening hours. To the objection that at an average daily temperature of 7 °C, the mercury column may rise above ten by noon, experts have a clear answer: it is better to drive on winter tires at 10-12 °C than on summer tires at 2-4 °C.

The traffic police also remind drivers of the need to adopt a calmer and more measured driving style. Choose a safe speed and distance, avoid sudden maneuvers and braking, especially near pedestrian crossings, in exposed areas, on bridges, overpasses, and road curves. All occupants of the vehicle must be buckled up, and children under 12 years of age must be transported in special restraint systems.
