Alexander Kosinets: revision of the Great Patriotic War history is inadmissible
VITEBSK, 11 May (BelTA) – The revision of the Great Patriotic War history is inadmissible, stressed Vitebsk Oblast Governor Alexander Kosinets at a solemn meeting dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the Victory, BelTA has learned. “It is our veterans that beat the fascism. It is them who are decorated with medals for liberating Warsaw, Belgrade, medals for taking Berlin,” said the Governor. 9 May 1945 is part of the world history and is of huge importance for dozens of countries and nations. It stands for freedom and independence for Belarus. Many lives were paid to gain the victory. One in three of Vitebsk Oblast residents died during the war this is why it is time to understand that wars, terrorism and extremism must not exist in the modern world, stressed Alexander Kosinets. The festive meeting, a parade of the Vitebsk garrison troops and a march of workers took place in the Victory Square in Vitebsk on 9 May. It began with armored personnel carriers with replicas of the Victory Banner on top along with standards of the fronts that liberated the Vitebsk Oblast, namely the First Baltic Front, the Second and Third Belarusian Fronts. The Banner and the standards were followed by open cars with Great Patriotic War veterans. Around 40,000 Vitebsk residents flocked to the square to greet those who survived the war, to pay tribute to the memory of the fallen and to participate in the celebrations.
