Belarusian and Latvian children create cartoon
MINSK, 16 July (BelTA) – Children from the Latvian town Ludzy and Belarusian town Glubokoe are creating an animated film, head of the culture department of the Glubokoe Region Executive Committee Rimma Muravei told BelTA. Ten young artists have decided to create a cartoon, which will describe Belarus-Latvia folk traditions. Within several months the future cartoonists were studying customs and traditions of their neighbours: the children of Glubokoe visited Ludzy and the Latvian children traveled to Glubokoe. According to Rimma Muravei, the children have written the cartoon script about Nesterka and his adventures. The artists are drawing sketches in a small village Ivesi of the Glubokoe region. In early August the children from Glubokoe will go to Ludzy to continue work on the film in a studio with the help of modern computer programmes. Next year the cartoon will be shown at Magnifikat International Film Festival in Glubokoe in the Animated Film Nomination. Belarus-Latvia project is called “Visualization of Latvia-Belarus Folklore to Form a Cross-Border Artistic Bridge” and is financed within the framework of the Norwegian project on Glubokoe-Ludzy cooperation. In addition, the young artists have encouraged Glubokoe region authorities to open the first art school in the region.
