An exhibition “Artists of the Vitebsk oblast - for the 70th anniversary of founding of the oblast” opened in Vitebsk on January 16. The exposition featuring almost 150 works by 70 artists is deployed in the exposition hall of the Vitebsk modern art centre and oblast museum of local lore and culture. The exposition aims to display the achievements of the modern-day period and feature the chronicle of the development of the Vitebsk art school over the past 70 years. In the early 20th century Vitebsk became one of the world’s biggest laboratories of modern art, architecture and design. The town made history as one of the avant-garde centres; the concepts “Vitebsk art school” and “Vitebsk renaissance” still attract artists from all around the world. The exhibition is organised by the culture department of the Vitebsk oblast executive committee and Vitebsk oblast organisation of the Belarusian Union of Artists.
