Remains of nine Soviet soldiers unearthed near Vitebsk
VITEBSK, 13 September (BelTA) – Remains of nine soldiers of the Red Army were discovered near the village of Noviky, Vitebsk District, on 13 September, BelTA learned from commander of the 52nd special search battalion Ivan Tetushkin. Servicemen found the remains of soldiers when they defused explosive devices on the territory of Shapechino farm. The remains were identified by the fragments of clothes. Specialists are currently retrieving the remains from the soil. Later the remains will be re-interred, according to Ivan Tetushkin. The search near Vitebsk is held as part of the CIS International Memory Watch 2011. Partaking in the event are servicemen of the 52nd special search battalion of the Belarusian Defense Ministry and volunteers from Belarus and Russia. The works are organized in Vitebsk District. After the Memory Watch unearthed remains will be re-interred in one of the mass graves in Vitebsk District.
