Vitebsk Art Museum displays works of over 50 local artists
VITEBSK, 18 March (BelTA) – Works of more than fifty artists are on display at the Vitebsk Art Museum exhibition, Artists of Vitebsk of the late 20th-early 21st Centuries. The expo opened on 18 March, BelTA learnt from the administration of the museum. In 2011 the Yudel Pen Studio that in its time initiated the opening of Vitebsk Art School marks its 115th anniversary. Vitebsk established and unknown artists alike have featured more than 50 works to pay tribute to the memory of great Belarusian artist. The exposition has turned the third floor of the museum into a huge creative space that accumulated the best artistic potential of the modern Vitebsk art school. The primary goal of the exhibition organized on the initiative of Chairman of the Oblast Executive Committee Alexander Kosinets is to demonstrate the achievements of the modern period and creative development of the Vitebsk Art School, which is one of the highlights of the Belarusian culture today. In the early 20th century Vitebsk became one of the world's biggest laboratories of modern art, architecture and design. The city went down in history as one of the centers of avant-garde. The notions of “Vitebsk art school” and “Vitebsk renaissance” still attract researchers from around the world. Today the regional organization of the Belarusian Union of Artists unites more than 100 artists who work in such genres as painting, drawing, sculpture, decorative arts.
