Vitebsk Oblast to construct seven ice palaces in 2011-2015
VITEBSK, 16 August (BelTA) – In 2011-2015 Vitebsk Oblast will construct seven ice palaces, Chairman of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee Alexander Kosinets told a closing ceremony of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee cup ice hockey tournament, BelTA has learnt. According to the Governor, the region attaches great attention to development of ice hockey. In 2011, an ice palace seating 3,500 people will open in Orsha. In 2011-2015 the ice palaces will open in Lepel, Novolukoml, Glubokoe, Postavy and Polotsk. An ice palace seating 7,300 people will be constructed in Vitebsk. Moreover, a football arena is expected to be constructed in the Bilevo residential district of Vitebsk, Alexander Kosinets added. Alexander Kosinets thanked sportsmen and fans for the participation in the tournament which will help the Belarus national team gather the best sportsmen to participate in the 2014 world ice hockey championship in Minsk. The Vitebsk hockey club has become the winner of the tournament. The Mogilev-based Khimvolokno hockey club took the second place, the Minsk-based Yunost-MHL – the third one. Goalkeeper Alexander Borodulya (Vitebsk Hockey Club), defender Vasily Polonitsky (Vitebsk Hockey Club), forward Alexander Borozenko (Khimvolokno Hockey Club) and striker Roman Blokh (Khimvolokno Hockey Club) have been recognized as the best sportsmen of the tournament.
