Vitebsk Regional Museum wins Intermuseum-2011 prize
MINSK, 10 June (BelTA) - The project “Masonic Exposition from Vaclav Fedorovich’s Collection” of the Vitebsk Regional Museum won the CIS contest of young museum professionals “Enhancing the Prestige of the Museum Profession” at the 13th International Festival of Museums Intermuseum-2011 which was held in Moscow on 1-8 June, BelTA learnt from the spokeswoman for the Culture Ministry of Belarus Anna Smolskaya. The Belarusian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War was awarded the second prize in the CIS contest of museums “Cultural Space - Space of Trust”. Attending the festival were 230 museums of the CIS countries. Among the participants were also the Science Museum (Barcelona, Spain), Seoul Olympic Museum (South Korea), the Olympic Museum (Lausanne, Switzerland), National Museum of the 21st Century Arts (Rome, Italy), Egypt Museum and Papyrus Collection, the Ocean Museum in Stralsund (Germany; winner of the European Museum Forum 2010), the Natural History Museum of Neuchatel (Switzerland; winner of the international museum competition Best in Heritage), Science Museum in London, the National Museum of Scotland, the Art and Design Museum (Goteborg, Sweden). Anna Smolskaya has added that participation of Belarusian museums in such events enhances the prestige of Belarusian culture abroad, demonstrates uniqueness of every museum and advertises them as tourist attractions from different regions of the country, and helps establish cultural, business, scientific contacts with museums, cultural establishments, and travel agencies of other countries.
