Vitebsk Technological University develops medical fabric for burns treatment
The experimental plant of the Vitebsk State Technological University (VSTU) has developed the production of medical knitted fabric used for local treatment of burns and wounds. The first batch of the fabric is being manufactured for Borisov Pharmaceutical Plant, BelTA learnt from the enterprise. The knitted fabric is the basis for the production of dressing. The fabric is soaked with special ointments and cut in the forms of bandages and tissues. This fabric was developed by the specialists of the VSTU knitting technology department. The fabric meets the requirements for medical dressing: it should retain certain amount of ointment and the wound under it should “breath”. This innovation and resource-saving technology helps minimize raw-materials consumption and increase the output of the product. Borisov Pharmaceutical Plant has ordered 200 kg of fabric. Such materials are not produced in Belarus yet, though the annual demand for it is estimated at 2 million pieces a year. The experimental plant of the Vitebsk State Technological University is a structural component of the university; it puts into practice new technologies developed by the scientists and students of the university.
