Vitebsk theater Koleso wins 9th International Masks Festival in Latvia
VITEBSK, 29 February (BelTA) – The youth theater Koleso of the Vitebsk culture center has won the 9th International Masks Festival in Latvia, BelTA learnt from the center. Taking part in the festival in Daugavpils were teams from Latvia, Lithuania and Belarus. The Vitebsk theater received the first prize in the contest of team and individual masks for the Blue bird of Belarus performance in a la dell’arte style. Koleso was very popular among the participants of the festival and gave 6 performances during three festival days. At the opening parade of modern untraditional fashion, masks and hairstyles Koleso presented a theatrical fashion parade. The following day the team gave a performance in a dell’arte style in the Daugavpils gymnasium, took part in a show in the Daugavpils center of earthen arts and finished the day with the evening show Bulba in the Latvian Culture Center. After busy festival days Koleso celebrated Maslenitsya together with citizens and participants of the festival in Unity Square in Daugavpils. “This is very symbolic. It shows that despite differences in cultures, traditions and mentalities of the two nations we have a lot in common, and this unites us,” the Vitebsk culture center said. The first prize was divided between the Vitebsk theater and the folk group Ceiruleits from the Livani Municipality. The team of the Belarusian society Uzdym in Daugavpils placed second.
