Belarus harvests 40% of cropping area
Belarus has harvested 922,000 hectares, or 40% of the total cropping area, BelTA learnt from the main plant growing department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Foodstuffs. The Gomel oblast has harvested 65% of the cropping area. It is followed by the Brest oblast (50.3%), Grodno oblast (41.4%), Minsk (35%), Mogilev (almost 30%), the Vitebsk oblast (20%). The gross harvest made up 3,386.000 tonnes. The highest yield is in the Minsk oblast: 758,400 tonnes. Then goes the Gomel oblast with 675,500 tonnes. The Brest oblast has harvested 667,400 tonnes, Grodno 665,000 tonnes, Mogilev 1383,000 tonnes and Vitebsk oblast 237,300 tonnes. The highest yield is in the Grodno oblast: 46.6 centners per hectare (10 centers more from 2007). The yield in the Brest oblast is 37 centners per hectare (27 centners last year). The Mogilev and Minsk oblasts crop more than 36-37 centners per hectare. The yield countrywide averages 36.8 centners per hectare, or 6.4 centners more than last year.
