Belarus’ leading role in countering human trafficking recognized by UN
MINSK, 13 May (BelTA) – The United Nations member states recognized Belarus’ leading role in counteracting human trafficking, the chief of the information department – spokesman for the Foreign Minister of Belarus, Andrei Savinykh, told a news briefing when commenting on Belarus’ report at a session of the United Nations Human Rights Council's Universal Periodic Review on 12 May. A Belarusian delegation was headed by Ambassador Mikhail Khvostov, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva. The national report was on the policy of the country in human rights, including civil, political, social, economic and cultural human rights, Andrei Savinykh said. The discussion after the national review showed that there is a great interest in Belarus’ experience in human rights. “Participants of the discussion praised Belarus’ achievements in protection of children’s rights, support of socially vulnerable categories of people, education, and healthcare. The UN member states recognized Belarus’ leadership in counteracting trafficking in people and urged our country to share positive experience in this area, Andrei Savinykh said.
