Belarus tops CIS in food consumption
MINSK, 6 April (BelTA) – Over several years Belarus has been taking one of the leading places among the CIS countries in the consumption of potato, meat, milk and eggs, BelTA learnt from Elena Kondratenko, deputy head of the department for statistical data of the National Statistics Committee. The recent years have seen a change in the consumption of particular food products in the country. Thus, according to the preliminary data, in 2010 per capita consumption of vegetables went up by 22kg over 2005 to a total of 149kg. Over the period under review consumption of meat and meat products increased by 23kg to reach 84kg, consumption of eggs – by 40 to a total of 296. Potato consumption remains the highest in the country. In 2010 it made up 183kg per capita.
