Belarus wins six medals at Mathematical Olympiad in Germany
MINSK, 20 July (BelTA) – Belarus' whiz kids won six medals at the 50th International Mathematical Olympiad in Bremen on 10-22 July, BelTA learnt from Natalia Gorovaya, a consultant of the secondary education department of the Education Ministry of Belarus. The gold winner is Artem Toestov, a 11th grade student of the lyceum of the Belarusian State University. Silver winners are Svetlana Ovchinnikova, a 11th grade student of gymnasium No. 8 from Vitebsk, and Aleksei Voidelevich, a student from gymnasium No.29 and also 9th grade students Polina Khudyakova (secondary school No41, Minsk) and Sergei Dovgal (gymnasium No.8, Vitebsk). 11th grade student from gymnasium No.1 from Rechitsa Artem Govorov picked up a bronze medal. “We are especially happy with the success of the 9th grade students,” Natalya Gorovaya said. “These young people showed that they have been selected to the team for a reason. They still have a possibility to brush up their knowledge and to maintain the prestige of Belarusian mathematical science,” she said. According to her, this is not the first time that Svetlana Ovchinnikova has taken part in such competition. In 2007 she won a bronze medal, and in 2008 a silver medal. Aleksei Voidelevich picked up a bronze medal in 2008.
