Lukashenko: More foreign investments into small towns
DZERZHINSK, 1 April (BelTA) – It is necessary to act more aggressively in attracting foreign investment to create new enterprises in medium-sized and small towns, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said when visiting the Unomedical company in Dzerzhinsk District. The president believes that such enterprises should be established in each district as they significantly influence the region's economy, create new jobs. Alexander Lukashenko stressed that the government, on its part, will do everything necessary so that an investor would feel comfortable and invest in the creation of new industries. The Foreign Limited Liability Company Unomedical founded by a Danish company is one of the GDP-forming companies in Dzerzhinsk District. Its share in total industrial production of the district is over 10%. The main line of business is the manufacture of medical products. All products are exported to Slovakia for sterilization and further sales around the world, including Germany, Denmark, France, and Norway. Alexander Lukashenko got familiar with the production of the export-oriented medical products. The president praised the technological level of the company and stressed that small towns need more companies of the kind. The company was founded in 1992. Since then nearly $9 million has been invested in the construction and modernization of its manufacturing facilities. In 2010 Unomedical produced Br43.2 billion worth of products, which accounted for 92.5% of the output in 2009. The export of goods and services totaled almost $15 million, or 96% to 2009. The company had a foreign trade surplus of $5 million. Last year the company netted Br658 million in profits. The company plans further expansion. The future plans include sterilization of goods inside the country and the import of raw material s only. In 2011 the company will implement a new project that requires about $2 million of investment. The company employs 295 professionals. The average salary makes up nearly Br2 million.
