Presence of recalled ambassadors ‘not required’ in Belarus
MINSK, 23 March (BelTA) – The Belarusian side believes the presence of the recalled ambassadors of the nations that have voted in favor of introducing additional sanctions against several Belarusian citizens and enterprises is not required in Belarus. The statement was made by Andrei Savinykh, Head of the Information Office, Press Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, at a press conference on 23 March. “We are forced to immediately start taking response measures. Our European partners have been notified about the possibility in advance. In present conditions the Belarusian side sees no need for the presence in Belarus of the recalled ambassadors of the nations that have voted in favor of the decision,” said Andrei Savinykh. “The Belarusian side regrets the decision made by the European Union Council to introduce extra measures against several Belarusian citizens and enterprises. The step makes prospects of normalizing the relations and resuming the dialogue on sensitive matters even more distant,” he remarked. Andrei Savinykh also said European politicians are “enthralled by conflict thinking, they are hostages of the logic of enforcement and blackmail”.
