VITEBSK, 22 May (BelTA) - Scholars from Belarus, Russia, Poland and Ukraine are expected to participate in the international scientific conference “Polotsk in the European history and culture” in Polotsk, BelTA learnt from the ideology department of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee. The conference is one of the pivotal scientific events dedicated to the birth of the Belarusian statehood. This year in May Belarus will celebrate the 1150th anniversary of Polotsk, according to the chronicles. The conference will sum up the scientific research on the Belarusian statehood, written monuments, archeological materials of its early period, architectural and cultural development. One of the conference goals is to define the role of Polotsk in the European history and culture. A plenary meeting and the book presentation dedicated to the anniversary of Polotsk will be held on the first day. The conference will stay open until 24 May.
