Alley opened in Vitebsk to honour laureates of Belarus President’s art prize

VITEBSK, 10 July (BelTA) – An alley was unveiled in Vitebsk on 10 July to honour laureates of the Belarus President prize “Towards peace and mutual understanding via art” at the XVIII international art festival Slavonic Bazaar in Vitebsk. At the opening ceremony Belarusian Culture Minister Pavel Latushko remarked that the Slavonic Bazaar in Vitebsk is a contribution to the world culture. The Minister said that the opening of the Alley is a tribute of respect to all artists and figures of culture who have made their contribution to the development of friendly relations between people and nations. In the near future names of Belarusian pop singers and figures of culture will be unveiled in the Alley, the Minister is convinced. Outstanding singer Valery Leontyev, this year’s winner of the Belarus President prize, sincerely thanked the public for the warm welcome. He admitted it was very pleasant to get his name paved over as his personal star in the Alley of Glory was unveiled. So far the Alley bears five personal plaques with names of five winners. The first winner was Russian composer Andrei Petrov (2005) followed by singers Alla Pugacheva (2006) and Sofia Rotaru (2007), composer Alexandra Pakhmutova (2008) and singer Valery Leontyev (2009). The prize was instituted in 2005 by a presidential decree. The prize is awarded to figures of culture and art, music bands, organisations for a considerable contribution to building up the international cultural cooperation, propaganda of achievements and examples of the world artistic culture based on humanistic ideals and values.
