Austrian investors to take part in multimodal logistics center project in Orsha

MINSK, 19 May (BelTA) – A large Austrian company is willing to take part in a joint Belarusian-Latvian project to create an international multimodal logistics center Orsha at the Orsha aircraft overhaul plant, director of the plant Vladimir Troitsky said as he met with a delegation of the Ministry of Transport of Latvia in Minsk on 19 May. “We have a real investor from Austria. We have held negotiations and did calculations,” Vladimir Troitsky said. The Belarusian side is expecting the potential partners will file concrete cooperation offers soon. Vladimir Troitsky said that the logistics center will have a range of advantages. It will be located at the crossing of transport corridors 2 and 9. There is an airdrome which can accommodate aircrafts of almost all types. There is also a railway route nearby. The new logistics center will be able to service cargo flows from Warsaw, Tallinn and other directions. The project provides for the construction of a warehouse terminal, office space for customs services, a bank and a leasing company, a hotel and a cafe for air crews and road carriers. An entertainment center may be build in the future. The project requires $13 million worth of investments. The project is expected to pay back in nine years. The payback period depends on cargo flows. According to an optimistic scenario, cargo flows will increase two times and the payback period will reduce to three years. The land plot for the new center has already been allocated. “We will start the construction once the decision is passed and the project is finalized, Vladimir Troitsky said. Latvia’s Logistic and Partners company is expected to take part in the project. According to Latvian Minister of Transport Kaspars Gerhards, this firm has a wealth of experience in logistics. The minister expressed confidence that the joint project will be a success. “We are ready to support it and hope that the Transport Ministry of Belarus will provide its support too. This will give an impetus to a more dynamic economic cooperation between the two countries,” he said.
