Belarus, France to develop interregional cooperation

MINSK, 12 May (BelTA) – The Glubokoye region of the Vitebsk oblast and the French canton of La Fere have plans to expand and strengthen interregional cooperation. A delegation of the French town of La Fere led by member of the Senate of the Republic of France Jean-Claude Frecon has arrived in Belarus to discuss the matter, BelTA learnt from the press service of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus. “The visit which is slated for 12-18 May is aimed at the developing and improving the relations at the regional level, namely the Glubokoye region and the canton of La Fere, as well as at the level of the two countries, Belarus and France,” the House of Representatives noted. The French delegation is expected to meet with the deputies of the House of Representatives, members of Belarus’ National Assembly’s task group for cooperation with the Parliament of France on 13 May. The cooperation between the two twin towns, Glubokoye and La Fere, has recently been dynamic and sustained, what has been encouraging both the sides for further and expanded interregional links. The twin towns are planning to hold on-the-job training for the heads of the agricultural companies and combine operators of the Glubokoye region and the farms of the canton of La Fere. The Glubokoye state vocational lyceum is set to send its students for training to the agricultural college of La Fere. French students will be received in Belarus as well. The twin towns also plan to organize the days of the towns, exhibitions, concerts and work out programmes for youth exchanges. The Belarusian and French regions started cooperation in 2005 when a mission of French physicians visited Glubokoye to provide humanitarian aid to the hospitals. Since then the two regions have exchanged numerous visits of the delegations of heads of the administrative districts, physicians, educational workers and students.
