Belarusian-German joint venture San Marco intends to boost footwear production by 20% in 2008

In 2008, the Belarusian-German joint venture San Marco intends to boost footwear production by 20% as against 2007, director general of the company Nikolai Martynov told BelTA. In 2006, the company produced almost 700 thousand pairs of footwear. San Marco intends to increase the output due to expanding the production facilities to produce children, men and women’s footwear. The company has already purchased a new premise to launch a new workshop. Additional 120 people are expected to be engaged in the work in the new production facility. The main goal of the company is to produce footwear of various price range, Nikolai Martynov stated. The private company Marco is the biggest footwear producer in Belarus. In 2007, Marco and San Marco produced 2.6 million pairs of footwear, or 15% up as against 2006. About 50% of the total output is exported to Russia. The company Marco was founded in 1991. Apart from footwear, the company produces leather goods and shoe lasts for Belarusian footwear-producers. The company employs more than 3 thousand people.
