Early voting in Vitebsk complies with legislation

VITEBSK, 15 December (BelTA) – The first days of the early voting in Vitebsk Oblast did not witness any violations of Belarusian election legislation, BelTA learned from the CIS long-term observer Anatoly Nebogatov, Director of the Department for Humanitarian Cooperation, General Political and Social Problems of the CIS Executive Committee. Anatoly Nebogatov got acquainted with the work of four precinct commissions and the voting procedure, including sealing ballot boxes for early elections. He pointed out that the number of local observers was considerable: there were a dozen and a half observers at one of the polling stations. Anatoly Nebogatov believes it proves the fact that the election process is transparent. “The election campaign is held in compliance with Belarusian legislation,” he added. Anatoly Nebogatov also spoke about the competence of precinct commissions’ members and their friendly attitude towards voters and observers. Precinct commissions are supplied with all the necessary documents, territorial commissions provide them with necessary support. Short-term international observers will come to the regions ahead of the election day. According to preliminary figures, there will be more than 40 CIS and OSCE observers. The election commissions in Vitebsk Oblast have accredited more than 4,400 local observers.
