More than Br334bl invested in small towns of Vitebsk oblast in January-October

Over the ten months 2008, more than Br334 billion was invested in the economy of small towns of the Vitebsk oblast, BelTA learnt from Zinaida Koroleva, the deputy head of the economy department of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee. The small towns of the region are carrying out more than 240 investment projects. Some 15 new production facilities were set up. For instance, the Lepel Dairy Plant has launched the production of ice-cream. The production of packaging has been launched in the village of Bolbasovo, the production of articles made of polymers – in Rossony, the production of polystyrol slabs has been launched in Postavy. In 2008, a woodworking production facility was set up in Kopys. This project was included in the state integrated programme on regions development. It became the fourth big projects which has been included in the state programme and implemented since 2007, Zinaida Koroleva added. Over the ten months 2008, owing to the investments in the production area more than 4.3 thousand new working places were set up in the Vitebsk oblast. At the same time, more than 60 investment projects initiated by the local authorities have not been carried out yet. The Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee concerns about the implementation of investment projects in the towns of Baran, Senno, Disna and in the villages of Bolbasovo, Ezerische. According to economists, in 2008, the small towns of the Vitebsk oblast will increase the production output by 18%, the production of consumer goods – by 23% while the annual targets were 10% and 11% respectively. The most significant growth of the production output was registered in the small towns of Borovukha, Vetrino, Kopys and Shumilino.
