New sports centre to open in Vitebsk oblast in December

The biggest in the Vitebsk oblast sports centre will open on the base of the Luzhesno boarding school in December this year, BelTA learnt from director of the school Vladimir Shitko. The facility will be constructed in line with state programme “Children of Belarus” for 2006-2011. The cost of the project is around Br12 billion. The sports centre will include an indoor gym (it will occupy around 1 thousand square meters), a swimming pool (25 meters), 2 weight rooms and a tennis room, a billiard room, 10 locker rooms for sportsmen and a number of utility rooms. “The new sports centre will allow the Luzhesno boarding school to host various competitions. However, first of all, the centre will be used as a training ground for students for team sports (volleyball, football, basketball, handball) and swimming,” Vladimir Shitko said. Moreover, at present the school is finishing the renovation of a sports area and installation of an artificial turf on school’s football field. The artificial turf at the amount of ?60 thousand was presented by the Belarusian Football Federation, Vladimir Shitko noted. In the future, the Luzhesno boarding school intends to train future sportsmen. This year, the school has already set up two sports groups (football and basketball). The opening of the new sports centre, the artificial football field and a number of other sports facilities will allow Luzhesno to become a peculiar sports suburb of Vitebsk, Vladimir Shitko highlighted.
