Over 200 children from Russia recuperate in Lepel region in 2008

In line with the Union State Permanent Committee programme, over 200 Russian children underwent a recuperation course in the children’s resort centre Zhemchuzhina in the Lepel region in 2008, the Vitebsk oblast, BelTA learnt from director of the centre Vera Zakrevskaya. It is the sixth year in a row that the centre has won the tender to receive the children from the Chernobyl-hit regions of the Union State. In September-December 2008, the Zhemchuzhina resort centre welcomed the children from Tula and Bryansk. The children received the whole range of recuperation procedures including swimming pools, spa and training apparatuses. This year the centre will take part in the tender again. The construction of one more facility for 154 beds will end in 2009. A cultural and entertainment centre will be built in the sanatorium in 2010. It will embrace hobby groups, a dance-pavilion and an auditorium. The children’s resort centre Zhemchuzhina has been built for the Belarusian children from the Chernobyl regions. Every year the resort welcomes more than 7,000 children. The construction of the centre started in 1994 in line with the presidential programme Children of Belarus (the Chernobyl Children subprogramme). Today the Zhemchuzhina resort receives 484 children per shift.
