Polotsk debates renaming one of its streets in tribute to Battle of Grunwald

Public debates on whether to rename one of the streets in Polotsk in tribute to the 600th anniversary of the Battle of Grunwald are taking place in the town, BelTA learnt from Nikolai Ilyushenok, deputy chairman of the Polotsk town hall. The local authorities use questionnaires, polling among citizens and organizations, debates in local press. The idea to rename one of the streets in Polotsk into Grunwaldskaya was initiated by the Polotsk Zemlyachestvo association. Its members believe that Polotsk should mark the 600th anniversary of the famous battle when the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania formed an alliance and defeated the knights of the Teutonic Order. Belarusian troops made a great contribution to the victory. The Polotsk regimen was one of the largest and well-equipped. The valor of Polotsk residents was not left unnoticed either by contemporaries, or historians, reads the letter signed by Naum Galperovich, the member of the Union of Writers of Belarus, Belarusian Union of Journalists, chairman of the Polotsk Zemlyachestvo association.
