Russian businessmen developing tourist industry in Braslav Region of Belarus

MINSK, 21 July (BelTA) – The Russian investors are implementing the projects on developing the tourist industry near the Braslav Lakes National Reserve in Belarus, BelTA learned from Viktor Yakovenko, director of the tourism department of the Belarus Ministry for Sport and Tourism. At present, the Russian investors are constructing a big tourist center near the Braslav Lakes National Reserve. Other projects are being developed in the region as well. According to Viktor Yakovenko, the construction of hotels and recreational centers in the Braslav Region is very promising. In the near future, a bathing beach near Lake Drivyaty and a health resort in the village of Vidzy-Lovchinskie are expected to be constructed. The Braslav Lakes National Reserve occupies 69.1 thousand hectares. There are more than 70 lakes which occupy 12% of reserve’s area. The biggest lakes are Lake Drivyaty, Lake Snudy, Lake Boginskoe and Lake Strusto. The deepest lake is Lake Voloso Yuzhny (more than 40 metres). The flora of the reserve numbers 70 species, 16 of which are included in the Belarus Red Book. The Braslav Lakes National Reserve represents 188 species of breeding birds, 41 species of animals, 30 species of fish, 5 species of reptiles and 10 species of amphibians.
