Scientists of Belarus, Russia and Ukraine support idea to set up tourist route From Varangians To Greeks

Scientists of Belarus, Russia and Ukraine supported an idea to set up the trans-border tourist route From the Varangians To the Greeks. They expressed their opinion towards the route during the research conference From the Varangians To the Greeks: historical-cultural transit via Belarus. Traditions and Prospects which opened in Polotsk on May 30. Alexander Lokotko, a corresponding member of the Belarus National Academy of Sciences, the director of the Institute of Art History, Ethnography and Folklore, Oleg Ionnisyan, the head of the architectural archeology department of Russia’s State Hermitage, Alexander Motsya, a corresponding member of the Ukraine State National Academy of Sciences, consider that the trans-border tourist route will promote the unification of the cultural and historical potential of the European continent. Moreover, the interests of tourists in species of architecture and history will contribute to restoration of new facilities, specialists noted. The conference From the Varangians To the Greeks: historical-cultural transit via Belarus. Traditions and Prospects will become the first step on the way of setting up the trans-border tourist route all around the three Slavonic countries, BelTA learnt from director of the tourism department of the Belarusian Ministry of Sport and Tourism Viktor Yakovenko. The route will renew the ancient trading way, will get familiar with the cultural and historical heritage of these countries and will promote the economic development of the regions. The creation of the international tourist route was supported by the World Tourist Organization. The research conference From the Varangians To the Greeks: historical-cultural transit via Belarus.
